General Statement of Job:
The Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the College, provides vision and leadership for the development of innovative academic, workforce, and continuing education programs to serve the diverse needs of the region. Provides strategic leadership for areas of instruction, curriculum, assessment, faculty development, distance learning, and dual credit programs. Provides leadership for the development of transfer and articulation agreements with universities and colleges to which students transfer. Develops educational opportunities including credit and non-credit programs for partnering school districts. Ensures compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and requirements related to community college instruction and pathways.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the College and is responsible for educational policy and academic programs across all campuses, and higher education centers.
  2. Provides innovative and successful academic leadership and vision in instruction and program development in basic skills, transfer, workforce, and continuing education.
  3. Provides strong, dynamic academic and administrative leadership, fosters a collegial environment which encourages scholarship, teaching, and learning excellence.
  4. Promotes a learner-centered philosophy and the focusing of faculty and staff commitments toward student learning and success.
  5. Provides oversight for the following areas: Instructional Divisions, Curriculum and Student Learning, Professional Development, Dual Credit Programs, Distance Learning, and the University Relations, Transfer and Articulation Center.
  6. Coordinates with the Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Economic Development on the strategic plan and program usage for the Industry Training and Economic Development Center and the Regional Center for Public Safety Excellence.
  7. Reviews grant opportunities and supports applications for new grants; oversees implementation of grants within the Academic Affairs area.
  8. Provides leadership and oversight over assessment of Student Learning Outcomes and supports college-wide accreditation initiatives.
  9. Recommends and maintains instructional budgets and develops and maintains policies in the areas related to instruction.
  10. Ensures compliance with accreditation requirements.
  11. Leads the faculty recruitment and hiring process within the academic programs.
  12. Collaborates with business and industry community, and educational partners for the development of high-quality instructional programs.
  13. Represents the College as the Chief Academic Officer at national and state meetings, conferences, and in the community and with regulatory agencies, local boards, and advisory councils.
  14. Responsible for maintaining accountability and sound fiscal management of areas of responsibility.
  15. Maintains knowledge of the Colleges programs, policies, procedures, and academic standards.
  16. Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
  17. Serves as Campus Security Authority.
  18. Supervises instructional staff, including Deans/Program Chairs and Campus/Centers Administrators.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Education and Experience:
  1. Masters degree required; Doctorate preferred.
  2. At least five (5) years of experience in grant development, foundations, solicitation, or administration, preferred.
  3. At least 3 years of Teaching Experience at the community college level required.
  4. Experience in collegiate environment, preferred.
