Senior Project Manager, Office of the Provost Georgetown University

Senior Project Manager, Office of the Provost - Georgetown University

The Senior Project Manager plans, coordinates and executes academic administrative, planning and project management functions in the office of the EVP and Provost. They provide project management support for executive level meetings convened by the Provost, and manage and coordinate special projects as assigned; and facilitate/lead or manage university level projects as assigned by the Provost and/or Deputy to the Provost; ensuring follow-up on any action items.

The Senior Project Manager provides oversight and development of the budget for the Office of the Provost, manages student funding requests process, provides problem-solving for Deans offices and program heads with university level finance and HR issues, and facilitates reimbursements to executive staff and payments to vendors. They also manage the common spaces of the ICC building; working with Student Affairs leadership and MUG staff, facilities, GEMS and ICC occupants to address any issues or projects.

The Senior Project Manager:
  • Acts as the principal point of contact GAGE-Aft Graduate Student Workers and the SEIU Local 500 Adjunct Faculty Union. All union questions are directed through the GAGE-AFT or SEIU Local union president to the university point of contact for coordination of responses with the relevant university leaders and administrators.
  • Identifies and develops systems to facilitate the smooth functioning of the Provost's activities; works closely with the Deputy to the Provost and other members of the Provost's office for the effective coordination with the six main campus schools and school deans; and interfaces with internal and external constituencies.
  • Employs exceptional senior project management skills, including familiarity with project management software, and is attuned to budget and schedule creation, projections, timeline, tracking mechanisms, and follow-up.


The Senior Project Manager has regular exposure to confidential material, requiring a great deal of professionalism, discretion and integrity in dealing with internal and external contacts. In addition, they apply a high level of judgment, interpersonal skills and confidence when interacting with staff at all levels and high- profile external contacts. The Senior Project Manager produces work with a high level of attention to detail and is both approachable and discrete.

Work Interactions

Reporting to the Deputy to the Provost, the Senior Project Manager supervises the receptionist/office manager; manages projects for the Office and - for those purposes - may work for the COO Main Campus, or the Vice Provosts for Education, Research, and Faculty; and may occasionally hire student workers.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required - Master's degree preferred
  • 4 to 5 years of experience as an administrator and assistant to management, with supervisory experience, preferably in a university or college environment
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to take initiative and exercise good judgment in a fast-paced office
  • Orientation to detail while managing multiple assignments simultaneously
  • Must have demonstrated use of initiative and the ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to make choices, utilize resources provided and knowledge of general procedures, routines, and guidelines
  • Ability to professionally and diplomatically communicate with employees, faculty, administrators, students, parents and guests of the university
  • Interest in diversity issues
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written. Ability to write effectively to an academic audience

  • Basic data analysis skills
