Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine (OUWB) is seeking to hire an Associate Dean for Student Affairs. The Associate Dean for Student Affairs (Dean of Students) reports to the Dean, and is responsible for providing overall leadership and oversight of the programs that support students and enhance their educational experience in the School of Medicine. In this capacity, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, working with the Dean and Vice Dean for Business and Finance shall obtain and allocate resources (funds, space) to these programs, so as to ensure their quality, maintain appropriate accreditation, and be responsive to the needs of the students.

1. Assists the Dean with providing leadership in developing annual and long-range goals and objectives for Students Affairs.
2. Meets with students to provide support, advice and referrals. Assists with withdrawal from and re-entry to the School of Medicine.
3. Fosters a safe, healthy, and supporting learning environment for students, including participation in the planning for and monitoring of:
a. Student health services (including compliance with required immunizations)
b. Student counseling and mental health services
c. Harassment training and support (including intellectual, sexual, gender, racial, etc.)
4. Oversees the student's residency application process; including the generation of Medical Student
5. Participates in and coordinates the planning and execution of the recurring cycle of academic events including:
a. Incoming student orientation
b. White coat ceremony
c. Match Day
d. Convocation
e. Commencement
f. Student Awards Ceremony
6. Serves as ex-officio member of the Students Performance Review Committee.
7. Develops and reviews policies directly related to students. Ensures a smooth operation of policies and procedures of student grievance and disciplinary procedures.
8. Manages staff recruitment, onboarding, training, staff development, performance review and evaluation.
9. Responsible for oversight of operating budget. Participates in and collaborates on short-term and long-range fiscal planning for the division.
10. Serves as a spokesperson for the School of Medicine and a visible advocate for students.
11. Responds proactively to concerns of the School of Medicine community, students, parents/family members and external constituents.


1. Ph.D., EdD, M.D., or D.O degree required.
2. 5-10 years experience in Medical School administration / Educational Leadership positions
3. Excellent organizational and managerial skills
4. Proven superior verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact at all organizational levels.
5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work with members of the academic and clinical community.
6. Proven ability to work with medical students, specifically in the areas of career advising and development.
7. Demonstrated commitment to advance a culture of diversity and inclusion; ability to work with a diversified student body.
8. Exceptional service orientation and commitment to teamwork.
