Associate Dean for Academic Affairs/ Associate/Full Professor

Position Summary
The School of Physical Therapy at the University of the Incarnate Word invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for the School of Physical Therapy. The School of Physical Therapy includes a problem-based learning, entry-level doctor of physical therapy program; a Div I sports physical therapy residency; developing residencies in neurologic and pediatric physical therapy; and upcoming doctoral programs in occupational therapy and rehabilitation science. Position will assist the Dean with the overall administration of the academic programs of the School of Physical Therapy; implementation of academic policies, curriculum assessment, and the recruitment, retention and development of faculty facilitating, supporting, and promoting the scholarship of teaching, learning and assessment within the School; and fostering a learning community culture that is transformative and centered on enhancing faculty teaching effectiveness and promoting student learning.

This is a tenure-track position available at the associate or full professor level.

This position is considered a Responsible Employee under Title IX federal regulations and Mandatory Reporter under Texas state law and the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.

  • Exceptional judgment/critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to exercise maturity, discretion and independent judgment needed to handle confidential information, documents and communication.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Skills with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Teaching expertise and experience in instructional design in their area of specialization
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
  • Clinical degree in physical therapy or occupational therapy from an accredited institution.
  • An advanced terminal degree (PhD, EdD, DSc).


Required Work Experience
  • 5+ years in higher education in academic and/or administrative role.
  • Established scholarly agenda.


Preferred Qualifications
Five years in physical/occupational therapy education and 3 years in program administration.

Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.



Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
  • Must be a member of their professional association.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Texas.
