Job Summary

The Associate Dean, Student Affairs leads development and implementation of comprehensive student affairs programs and services for PharmD students to create an environment to promote student success. The Associate Dean provides leadership and management for critical student affairs and PharmD administrative operations in the areas of outreach and recruitment, admissions, student services and events, advising and student progression, scholarships, and co-curricular activities. The Associate Dean serves as the primary resource on student issues for the PharmD program with faculty, campus and external partners. The Associate Dean operates with significant independence to direct and manage the above programs in collaboration with the School's leadership, faculty, campus units and external agencies. The Associate Dean is responsible for assessing and identifying student needs as they relate to the above areas, and identifying, proposing and implementing solutions/initiatives to meet current and future goals of the School.

Department Description

The Office of Student and Curricular Affairs (OSACA) provides centralized administrative oversight for admissions, recruitment, outreach, advising and student services for the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree program. OSACA staff serve as ambassadors for the PharmD program, representing the School to prospective students and external groups, and leading communication and marketing initiatives to develop a strong applicant pool. OSACA staff provide comprehensive management of all aspects of the complex admissions process in conjunction with internal and external partners and applicants. OSACA staff members play a critical role working in conjunction with campus student services offices to support student success inside and outside the classroom and create an environment to foster student growth.

The OSACA provides responsive services and programs to address the needs of PharmD students, advising on academic and non-academic matters, assessment and resolution of student needs, issues, and concerns, and event planning/coordination to promote community and mark student transitions within the School of Pharmacy. Academic advising and oversight for student progression is centralized in the OSACA; staff work closely with faculty and students to ensure students meet the School's academic standards. The OSACA serves as a resource for students, faculty members, alumni, and employers regarding the School's PharmD program and students.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and eight years of related experience and/or equivalent experience/training
6 - 8 years of supervisory responsibility
7 - 10 years of managerial experience in an academic or student affairs
Experience in graduate/professional student academic affairs
Thorough knowledge of common computer application programs
Strong leadership, management, organizational, analytical, negotiation and conflict management skills
Very strong ability to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution
Proven strong interpersonal and facilitation skills, including the ability to bring people together to create solutions and forge a successful conclusion
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in student affairs or related area
PhD degree in educational psychology, education, or related field
