Job Overview

The Assistant Director for Student Affairs manages and helps to ensure the successful execution of all aspects of the overall administrative planning and functioning of the School of Medicine's Office of Student Affairs, to include meeting deadlines for time-critical activities managed by OSA that impact many aspects of student's progress and success, both academic and non-academic, throughout all four years of medical school.

They work actively with the broader Georgetown University student affairs and services, School of Medicine leadership, and several functional units at the SOM to ensure timely action and comprehensive support of student progress, enrollment, engagement, activities and organizations, compliance, residency Match/SOAP, wellbeing, and advising.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the Assistant Director manages student workers in the Office of Student Affairs and routinely interfaces with School of Medicine leadership, staff across all SOM offices, students & class leadership, and faculty. Further, they serve as a representative for student affairs on select School of Medicine, medical center, and main campus committees and groups that impact and advance student policies, services, and support.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, student affairs, or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, including high emotional intelligence and ability to navigate conflict
  • General knowledge and understanding of higher education organization, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
  • Ability to manage multiple shifting priorities under time constraints
  • Strong administrative judgment and problem-solving skills


Preferred Qualifications

Experience in medical student affairs, to include advising, conduct, compliance, student life, student wellness, advancement, professionalism, Match/SOAP, and programming
