Assistant Dean for Student Affairs

The Fowler College of Business Center for Student Success and the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity announce a search for an Assistant Dean of Student Affairs to begin assigned duties approximately April 1, 2023.

The Assistant Dean works in collaboration with the Dean of the Fowler College of Business and the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity to deliver and integrate student services in the academic setting. In general the Assistant Dean is responsible for establishing, communicating and maintaining student support services and for student advising and advocacy within their academic division; supporting college and campus recruitment, orientation and retention efforts; facilitating student leadership development and co-curricular involvement; and for special project as assigned by their college dean or the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. In the delivery of their responsibilities, assistant deans work closely with a number of campus departments and programs including, though not limited to, Enrollment Services, New Student and Parent Programs, Student Life and Leadership, Career Services, Student right and Responsibilities, Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Disability Services and others.

Salary Range: $7,714 - $8,542


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in business administration, counseling, higher education administration, or related field; three to five years of related experience in an academic setting; and experience in higher education, particularly in the area of advising and career counseling.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of organizational development, planning and structure; principles of administrative, personnel and fiscal management; professional counseling techniques and strategies; statistics and research methodologies; specific academic disciplines. Knowledge of or ability to understand the role and functioning of Student Services and Academic Affairs programs in a higher education setting and work with students from multicultural backgrounds presenting various attitudes and value systems.

Specialized Skills Required
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff and administrative units to effectively champion student services and affairs within an Academic College
  • Must possess an understanding of the academic environment and the interface between academic and student affairs
  • Skills in individual counseling/advising and demonstrated interest in working with students and commitment to student success
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, tolerate ambiguity and use independent judgment
  • Exceptional written, oral communication, and active listening skills
  • Knowledge of student development theory strongly desired
  • Experience with development/measurement of assessment activities

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in higher education was preferred, particularly in the area of academic advising or career counseling
  • Masters degree in Business, counseling, higher education administration, or other a discipline related to the Fowler College of Business in which the assistant Dean is assigned; terminal degree preferred
  • Record of university teaching (Undergraduate/Graduate) and/or research preferred with upper percentile student evaluation scores
  • Experience running a complex organization
