Academic Adviser

Penn State Scranton is seeking a highly motivated, student-centered individual to join the Academic Advising Center/Division of Undergraduate Studies as a full-time academic adviser. We are looking for someone motivated to engage students in developing skills that allow them to explore and build meaningful academic goals for their undergraduate experience at Penn State. We are interested in individuals who understand the role of academic advising in promoting student success, the importance of building inclusive communities for students, and the role higher education can play in addressing complex issues.

In this position, you will:
  • Serve as the assigned academic adviser to first-or second-year undergraduate students where you develop relationships, coach exploratory engagement, and monitor academic progress
  • Develop expertise in interpreting University policies, procedures, and curricular requirements
  • Play an essential role in the planning and implementation of New Student Orientation
  • Participate in campus and University-wide committees, projects, or initiatives
  • Assist with advising training and programs, new student registration, change of campus student programs, and various recruitment events


Typically requires a Master's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a desire to work with students in a high-volume center are necessities for success in this position. The successful candidate will have a strong background in working with high school or college-aged students, with a proven track record and commitment to serving diverse student populations.
