Job Description
The Assistant Director of Faculty Affairs will assist with the daily management and oversight of the Faculty Resources team at the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH). The BUSPH Faculty Resources Office supports the recruitment, promotion, and advancement of the schools 300 faculty. Working closely with department chairs and department administrators, the Faculty Resources Office facilitates appointments and promotions, faculty development, and recruitment and retention, and the data systems and operational processes that support those activities. Ranked 6th among the best graduate schools of public health in the country by U.S. News and World Report, BUSPH is a leader in the academic public health community. Working closely with the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Faculty Advancement, the SPH Assistant Director of Faculty Affairs will supervise three full-time staff supporting the units key functions:
  • Faculty personnel actions: support appointments and promotions, onboarding, coverage, and personnel actions for a diverse, agile, results-oriented cadre of SPH faculty.
  • Faculty recruitment and professional development: implement best practices to recruit, retain, and advance talented and diverse public health scholars.
  • Data systems design and support: implement and develop flexible, reliable, state-of-the-art business tools and technologies to support the school's mission, processes, and faculty.

The Assistant Director will support the oversight of complex administrative functions and business operations in research and faculty advancement; actively participate and provide leadership in project management; facilitate, implement and coordinate organizational systems and processes for research and faculty development. They will collect, synthesize and interpret data, assist with metrics and reporting. This is an exciting role in a fast-moving environment, supervising a team of passionate young professionals.


Required Skills
A Bachelors degree is required for this position. Ideally, we are seeking a candidate who:
  • Has at least 3-5 years of direct experience including 2+ years of management experience
  • Has strong interpersonal skills and experience managing staff
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills
  • Is an effective problem solver
  • Displays excellent written/oral communication skills
  • Has the ability to manage multiple and competing deadlines
  • Discretion; ability to handle confidential information
