Job Description
The Assistant Director for Employer Engagement reports to the Associate Director for Employer Engagement. As a member of the Employer Engagement team, the Assistant Director conducts employer outreach to local, regional, and national employer representatives and alumni to further expand, diversify, and improve the quality and quantity of job and internship opportunities available to BU students and alumni. The Assistant Director assists with promoting opportunities to students, engaging in creative programs and events with alumni and employers, and partnering with colleagues across the campus and within the Center for Career Development to connect students and employers. The Assistant Director will develop strategic engagement strategies and ongoing relationship management to engage employers in a variety of recruiting and early talent development activities, events, and services that enhance the career trajectories of BU students. The Assistant Director will collaborate on outreach and programming with Employer Engagement and Industry Relations staff from other BU colleges and departments.

Selected responsibilities:
  • Develop job and internship opportunities along with corresponding events and activities with current and potential employers based upon strategic analysis and planning.
  • Analyze and pull data on employer engagement and student needs and develop programs that merge the two
  • Maintain a coaching caseload of students and alumni
  • Develop and maintain expertise and advanced knowledge in assigned industry area(s);
  • Facilitates the engagement of prospective employers with student organizations.
  • Develop and run Road Trips/Treks to area employers
  • Conduct employer site visits and/or develop programs for students to engage with employers at their job site.


Other responsibilities of the assistant director(s) depending on needs and year include:
  • Overseeing external and internal professional development opportunities for the EE team
  • Develop and provide in-service training for staff,
  • Building a robust internship pipeline from current and new employers
  • Conducting an annual gap analysis of employer engagement and student desirability
  • Curating an employer relations program that meets specific needs of College of Arts and Sciences, and graduate students.
  • Support career fairs, small fairs,
  • Running mock-interview programs for students
  • Developing new partnerships with Employers
  • Running reports that assess utilization and efficacy of programs


Required Skills
A cover letter is required for consideration.

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years of experience required.


Skills required:
  • Understanding of Higher Education culture and community partnerships, College job market trends and employment needs.
  • Knowledge of and experience with professional standards, practices, and processes for recruitment and career services.
  • Project management skills.
  • The ability to build diverse and inclusive programs and activities Systems/ basic database management
  • Persuasive skills to engage stakeholders in career services partnerships and sponsorships.
  • Ability to oversee multiple activities and orchestrate coordinated service delivery.
  • Experience and proficiency in external relationship development/management or business development.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Technical skills, particularly with Handshake or other career services management systems, LinkedIn, and other social media tools, along with the ability to learn and utilize other systems, applications, and tools.
  • Program, event, and project management experience in a matrix and team-based structure.
