About the Position:
Extension and International Programs (EIP) collaborates with University departments and colleges on unique programs for students from the community and around the world. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Communications Specialist (Public Affairs/Communication Specialist I). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Marketing and Communications, the Communications Specialist is responsible for working independently on a broad range of writing projects involving the many programs of Extension and International Programs (EIP). Assignments include, but are not limited to, websites, social media, email, press release, editorial, interviews, voiceovers, blog, news, media, public affairs, events, program, and digital and print advertising content. Edits acquired content for style, tone, grammar, and accuracy. Ensures communication and marketing efforts contribute to style standards and best practices for internal and external audiences. Researches, identifies, recommends and incorporates new writing styles and techniques to provide a more engaging and growth-oriented web, email, social and digital presence. Collaborates extensively with Marketing and Communications project and creative leads and Associate Director. Other duties as assigned.


Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field and up to two years or related professional or technical experience. Knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs, as well as some exposure to marketing and marketing research. Knowledge of basic web communication techniques, vehicles and formats. Ability to maintain cooperative and cordial relations with individuals and/or groups while obtaining, interpreting, and disseminating information about activities, programs, and objectives of an organization. Strong written and verbal communications skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and modern English usage. Must possess the ability to manage people, solve problems, and coordinate activities where direct supervision is shared.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in higher education within a marketing and communication setting. Deadline-driven with working knowledge of applicable communication and project management solutions such as Bitrix and Airtable. Social media management knowledge with the ability to be a content creator using Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva, an engager utilizing a solution such as Sprout, and an analyzer reviewing reports and making recommendations. Working knowledge of email solutions such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud and MailChimp. Creative writer with the ability to write for different audiences in varying formats. Knowledge of campus infrastructure, policies, and procedures. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information and interpret data into user-friendly communications.
