Job Description:

Reporting to the Associate Provost-Charlestown, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs: Online Learning and Instructional Innovation focuses on advancing excellence and innovation in both technology and non-technology based teaching, learning and student development.



The Associate Dean will be responsible for online and remote learning to include maximizing the effective use of the learning management system (Moodle) and other instructional technologies. The focus is on-line, remote, hybrid, and traditional classroom-based learning environments committed to equity, access, cultural wealth, and student achievement.



The Associate Dean is responsible for providing leadership and direction in the following areas:



SUPPORT THE OFFICE OF THE PROVOST BY CONTINUING TO SUPPORT AND ADVANCE OF ONLINE AND REMOTE INSTRUCTION AT BHCC.



**Advance the development and implementation of the vision, mission and strategic plans for online learning and instructional innovation.



**Remain current with trends and emerging regulations related to educational technology and distance education, to advise the Office of the Provost.



**Represent the Office of the Provost as assigned to state and regional meetings focused on online learning.



OVERSEE THE MANAGEMENT OF AIDE



**Manage and supervise full and part-time staff training for:



  1. Knowledge of College calendars, processes and procedures
  2. Knowledge of AIDE's calendars, processes & procedures Monitor the budget and Strategic Plan for AIDE
  3. Knowledge of system updates and changes
  4. Competency in system use


**Develop an annual budget and manage allocations to advance the work of the Academic Innovation and Distance Education unit.



**Update and execute the strategic plan for AIDE.



**Oversee AIDE Staff, Staff Management and the Virtual Lab.



  1. Manage all staff schedule requests
  2. Collaborate with Associate Directors to plan and schedule staff meetings
  3. Oversee the staff review process
  4. Supervise the management of the Virtual/Live Innovation Lab including support for advanced teaching concerns/case management
  5. Supervise the technology platforms as assigned


MANAGE THE STAFF AND SYSTEMS SUPPORTING DISTANCE AND REMOTE EDUCATION AND COLLABORATE WITH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CONSTITUENTS AND PARTNERS



**Handle all campus emergency communications including:



  1. Notification of Moodle, ePortfolio and other AIDE managed systems' outages.
  2. Partner with IT to provide ongoing update notifications related to OneLogin and other IT system outages that impact academic instruction.


**Work with the Chief Information Officer and Academic Records to ensure the effective connectivity and integration of Colleague, BHCCSelfservice, and Moodle to seamlessly support students and faculty in accessing online and traditional courses using the learning management system



  • Serve as the primary administrator and liaison for the College's Learning Management System (Moodle) including all vendors and external partners associated with distance education
  • Lead, advance and support College-wide initiatives related to educational technology and instructional design, including LifeMap, grant activities, Open Educational Resources (OER) and e-portfolio
  • Serve as the primary LMS Administrator
  • Act as the primary point of contact for BHCC Moodle vendor
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all vendors and external partners associated with Moodle and distance learning (e.g., TechSmith, Digication, Respondus, etc.)
  • Work with the Chief Information Officer, all IT related offices, and Academic Records to ensure account access and data integrity between all LMS related systems
  • Serve as decision-maker regarding system upgrades, service requests and requests for new system integrations
  • Oversee system integrations for all new campus ed tech solutions (e.g. Lumen Learning, Labster etc.)
  • Oversee integration of LMS data solutions (e.g. Intelliboard)
  • Create processes for managing site backup, nonacademic spaces and all LMS usage across campus


SERVE AS THE PRIMARY ONLINE INSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATOR



  • Work with Academic Records, Academic Deans, and BHCC's Moodle vendor to manage all course accessibility in line with the academic calendar
  • Communicate relevant system updates/changes with Associate Directosr for promotion/announcement in campus communications
  • Determine policies/process for Moodle roles and access including IP students, guest educators and DSS team members
  • Work with campus offices to facilitate access to online and remote courses through Moodle and Webex
  • Oversee development and execution of digital learning solutions for Academic programs (e.g. Examplify)
  • Supervise requests for data/manage information requests regarding online program administration LMS use
  • Maintain BHCC's presence and course listings in MCO portal and other regional sites/organizations including NERCOMP and NEFDC
  • Oversee the winter intersession program


SERVE AS THE FACULTY/STAFF TRAINER FOR DIGITAL INSTRUCTION



  • Direct the web course expansion and associated course development process in concert with deans and the Office of the Provost
  • Supervise the course building process
  • Manage and support faculty, instructional designer, and developers throughout course building phase
  • Serve as decision-maker and communications official in course sign-off process
  • Supervise notifications process and oversee management of "final course approval" documentation
  • Support the expansion of a comprehensive faculty training to advance on-line learning, including but not limited to, high-impact practices in: outcomes assessment, course design, and on-line student engagement


ORGANIZE, LEAD, AND SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO ADVANCE THE EXPANSION OF ONLINE COURSES



  • Lead the expansion of a comprehensive faculty training to advance on-line learning, including but not limited to, high-impact practices in: outcomes assessment, course design, and on-line student engagement
  • Supervise the development of virtual student focused programs such as on-line student orientation program and a digital commons

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in higher education, instructional design, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience managing a distance learning program or related field
  • Demonstrated success in supervising and leading staff teams.
  • Proven commitment to advancing equity, access and cultural wealth by ensuring a diverse faculty and staff dedicated to students and their success.
  • Management experience in a college environment and strong collaborative and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with a Learning Management System (LMS) including Moodle and the interface with student information systems such as Colleague and Banner.
  • Comprehensive understanding of high-impact online, hybrid, and web-enhanced pedagogies and practices.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing faculty and staff trainings focused on-line teaching and learning.
  • Proficiency in implementing distance education accreditation standards.
  • Budget development and management experience
  • Experience in teaching and designing college courses including virtual and traditional classroom formats.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Earned doctorate degree in higher education, instructional design, or related field.
  • Experience teaching and working at a community college.
  • Experience with related educational technologies such as web conferencing tools, e-portfolios, Open Educational Resources (OER.)
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Moodle (LMS.)
  • Experience working in a unionized faculty and staff environment.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $115,000.00 - 120,000.00
