About the Position:

The College of Health and Human Development strives to prepare students to thrive in a globalized era in their chosen field. We provide education, conduct research and engage diverse communities to advance human health, development, and well-being. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Communications and Marketing Specialist (Public Affairs/Communication Specialist II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the general direction of the Dean and working closely with key members of the Dean's office (e.g., Director of Development, Senior Research Development Officer), the Communications and Marketing Specialist will work independently to lead the creation and coordinate the dissemination of marketing materials to increase the awareness of the work done in the College of Health and Human Development (HHD) within the community and across the university. That work may require educating and leading less experienced team members. The position is public facing and requires frequent contact with university and college management, faculty, and staff as well as regular contact with outside agencies, constituencies, and media. Sets clear goals for and demonstrate the effectiveness of the communications, public affairs, and marketing programs using analytics. The person hired may be eligible to participate in the college's telecommuting program. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:
Bachelors degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related field and up to two years or related professional or technical experience. Knowledge of the fundamentals of public affairs and/or media relations, as well as some exposure to marketing and marketing research. Possession of strong written and verbal communication skills with a solid foundation in grammar, spelling, and the composition of various communication vehicles. Ability to serve as a media spokesperson and/or senior editor. Working knowledge of copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the media. Thorough knowledge of web communication techniques, vehicles, and formats. Ability to effectively use web technology to achieve communication goals. Ability to analyze and select pertinent facts and integrate them into communication vehicles. Possession of strong story development and journalistic writing skills, as well as advanced editorial skills. Knowledge of interview techniques and the ability to define and deliver media messages. Working knowledge of marketing and research techniques and methods. Ability to apply market research to identify communication needs and target audiences. Ability to apply appropriate statistical techniques and methods to research. Possession of exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong public speaking, listening, and interpretive skills. Ability to provide lead work direction. Working knowledge of popular social media outlets with the ability to schedule, submit information, and regulate content.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree from an accredited four-year college or university a related field. Experience in an academic setting. Knowledge of HHD programs and processes. Proficient in use of interactive marketing techniques such as video sharing, social networks, email marketing, and blogs.
